Christina Alexandra Freeland was born on August 2, 1968, in Peace River, Alberta, Canada. Her father was a lawyer and a farmer, and her mother was an attorney who ran for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the 1988 federal election in Edmonton Strathcona. She went to Peace River’s T.A. Norris Middle School and Edmonton’s Old Scona Academic High School. From 1984 to 1986, she attended the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy on a scholarship.
