Thanks to Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, we’ll get a peek of the MCU colliding with the DCEU; a fantasy that will take decades to realize. Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk, and Robert Pattinson, who plays Batman, will star in the film. Mark Ruffalo, who recently made his DCEU debut as Gotham’s caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, has reportedly joined the Parasite director’s upcoming movie alongside Robert Pattinson.

What is the plot of the next Bong Joon-ho film?

The untitled film is based on the novel Mickey7 by author Edward Ashton, which will be released on February 15, 2022. According to Deadline, despite the fact that the film is said to be inspired by the novel’s premise, Bong Joon-ho may put his own spin on the situation, as he has always significantly altered the original plotline whenever he has worked on book adaptations.

If the upcoming film is a faithful adaptation, it will tell the story of Mickey7, the titular figure from the novel. He’s a “disposable employee on a human mission destined to inhabit the ice planet Niflheim,” according to the description. If a task is deemed too dangerous for human forces, he is dispatched to complete it. He gets revived in a new body with nearly all of his previous memories when he dies. Things start to go wrong after he dies for the sixth time, according to the book’s summary.

“After six deaths, Mickey7 knows the conditions of his deal…and why he took the only colonial job that was vacant when he accepted it.” When Mickey8 goes missing and is assumed murdered at the hands of nasty local monsters, their difficulties truly begin.”

Toni Collette has also been brought on board, according to Deadline, and both are now completing the details of their contracts. Pattinson, who will portray the protagonist in the film, will also be joined by Naomi Ackie, who is most known for her role in Star Wars. Unlike Korean and English-language films, this project is one-of-a-kind. Bong Joon-ho revealed in a 2021 interview with Variety:

“Korean film is set in Seoul and has distinct horror and action themes… The English project is a drama film based on a genuine story from 2016.”

Joon-ho will write the screenplay for the film, which he will also direct and produce through his production company, Offscreen, in collaboration with Kate Street Picture Company’s Dooho Choi. The collaboration also includes Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, co-presidents of Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B.
