Malice is the co-founder and original editor of the New York-based humor blog Overheard in New York, which publishes contributions of allegedly overheard conversations around the city. The site was inspired by a discussion overheard by co-creator S. Morgan Friedman and launched in 2003. In 2006, a book based on some of the site’s submissions was released.
Harvey Pekar’s 2006 biographical graphic novel Ego & Hubris: The Michael Malice Story, illustrated by Gary Dumm, is also about Malice. The biography, as the title suggests, focuses on Malice’s egoic personality development, a trait that Malice acknowledges.

Malice also collaborated on comedian D. L. Hughley’s books I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up: How the Audacity of Dopes Is Ruining America and Black Man, White House: An Oral History of the Obama Years, both published in 2012.
Dear Reader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il, his first work written exclusively by him, was published in 2014. Kickstarter helped fund it, and Amazon’s CreateSpace program published it. The book is a semi-farcical criticism on how Kim is depicted to the North Korean people, written from the hypothetical first-person perspective of Kim himself. Much of the content was based on propaganda material obtained by Malice on a week-long trip to Pyongyang, North Korea, in 2012. Malice had already written about his journey in a Reason magazine story from 2013. Dear Reader was hailed as “educational, and unexpectedly earnest” by Rob York in a largely positive review for NK News.
Malice has appeared on The Independents, Kennedy, Red Eye, The Greg Gutfeld Show, The Story with Martha MacCallum, and Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News and Fox Business Network since 2014. In October 2016, Malice filed a lawsuit against former Fox News personality Andrea Tantaros, alleging that he owed her $150,000 for authoring her book Tied Up in Knots: How Getting What We Wanted Made Women Miserable. Lawyers for Tantaros argued that revealing Malice’s role in editing the book would “severely impair her reputation in the eyes of her colleagues, fans, publisher, and the wider news-media community,” arguing that the action should be kept under seal. Tantaros countersued Malice for defamation, alleging that he falsified evidence and conspired with Fox News to smear her character. Malice’s lawsuit was thrown out. He appealed the dismissal, but was unsuccessful.
On Compound Media, Malice began anchoring the late-night chat show Night Shade with Michael Malice in 2018. On October 1, 2020, the show came to an end after 425 episodes.
