Neera has been a personal friend of Hillary Clinton’s, and her work with the Clintons has had a substantial impact on her professional life. As Director for Domestic Policy in the Clinton White House, Neera worked with Bill Clinton’s campaign on new energy policies and health-care reform. She also served as the First Lady’s domestic policy advisor.

Neera played a role in the implementation of Clinton’s welfare reform bill, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act, which was signed into law in 1996, according to Bruce Reed, a Democratic political operative.
