Nirmal created history on January 16, 2021, when he and nine other Nepali mountaineers were the first to summit K2 in the difficult winter conditions.

Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Geljen Sherpa, Pem Chiri Sherpa, Dawa Temba Sherpa, Mingma Gyalje Sherpa (Mingma G), Dawa Tenjin Sherpa and Kilu Pemba Sherpa, and Sona Sherpa make up his team. He was the only member of the expedition to reach the summit without using supplemental oxygen.
